  • Prevention Best Practices- What works and what doesn’t work? We’ll take a look at the history of prevention in the US and how we’ve gotten to where we are.  Prevention has changed radically through the years. Examine past strategies and current best practice in communities, schools, and families.
  • 40 Developmental Assets & Resiliency- Search Institute’s framework for positive youth development is an exciting way to think about and work with youth of all ages. Can be combined with education on resiliency, how we cope with trauma and crisis and still land on our feet! Great for drop in centers, school staff, parents and communities where youth development is a high priority.  See the Assets page for more information on what it is and how it can work for you!
  • Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) – This teaches the fundamental risk that follows when a woman who is expecting uses alcohol. This training is great for those in the health field, parents, students, school staff, coalitions, and others who come into contact with this special population.  Topics covered include history, causes, statistics, behavior challenges, and best practices for working with individuals who have FASD.
  • Drug Free Workplace- We can help train staff and management in corrective review and offer a wide range of education topics for employee training regarding drugs and alcohol to fit drug free workplace policy requirements.  Topics include understanding addiction, brief intervention and presentations covering a wide range of specific substances.  Call for details on available modules and see our Drug Free Workplace page for more information.
  • Environmental Prevention- Environmental prevention uses policy interventions to create an alcohol environment that supports healthy, safe behavior. Research over the last two decades demonstrates that these policy reforms work and can reduce the problems associated with underage drinking. Policy change can happen on more than just the federal or state level.  County, city, neighborhood, school and even individual policies can be created or altered to enhance the safety of our young people.  The environmental prevention presentation takes a look at Lancaster County, Nebraska through the eyes of a group of young people who took pictures around their community to highlight what they see on a day to day basis in their environment.  Some of it is amusing, some of it is offensive and some of it is downright frightening.  This presentation also looks at how to assess the environment you are in, to see where change should begin and explains environmental prevention in everyday language.
  • Media Literacy- A multi-media interactive presentation that examines the ways advertisers encourage our thinking.  Presentations can be tailored to address tobacco, body image, violence, alcohol, culture or addiction. An LCAD prevention team member will work with you to determine what topics and activities will best suit the needs of your audience.
  • Addiction 101- Learn the stages involved in addiction as well as the common signs and symptoms that follow at risk behavior as well as substance abuse addiction.  The three modules include our choices, our biological risk and what role the family environment plays in the lives of those who grow up in a home where substance abuse is present.  This is a look at addiction and risk in terms anyone can understand.
  • Science Based Drug Education- A look at the science behind addiction to different substances, the difference between stimulants, depressants and hallucinogens. Special emphasis can be given to any group of drugs, especially Methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin and up and coming drug trends.  A good presentation for people in the field, parents and community coalitions.
  • Parents! How Do YOU Talk to Your Kids About Drugs? - Parents have to wade through a lot of conflicting information regarding how best to address the issue of drug use and their children. This presentation offers basic advice on sound parenting practice. Also included are the signs and symptoms of substance use, common hiding places, and paraphernalia as well as slang drug terms.
  • If your group is looking for a specific presentation that is different from those listed above contact a member of LCAD’s Prevention Team at 402-475-2694 to discuss other optional topics.
